Where does your help come from?

Bible Devotion

Daily Devotion: 30th October 2023

Introduction:

Let me share my devotion today with you.

As a believer where does your help come from? Who do you go to when you are in need?

As humans, it is normal for us to go to other humans in times of need. We want to speak to someone who can also speak back to us, comfort us or assure us

Who do you go to when you are struggling or overwhelmed?

Personally, I will pick up the phone and call my husband and after he listens to me, he will encourage me, ask me to pray or pray with me.

I will rarely call friends and share my issues with them because I know they cannot help.

So who can help us?

This bible passage came at the right time and it is very timely.

Bible passage: 2nd Kings 24 - 27

Famine in Besieged Samaria

24 Some time later, Ben-Hadad king of Aram mobilized his entire army and marched up and laid siege to Samaria. 25 There was a great famine in the city; the siege lasted so long that a donkey’s head sold for eighty shekels[a] of silver, and a quarter of a cab[b] of seed pods[c] for five shekels.[d]

26 As the king of Israel was passing by on the wall, a woman cried to him, “Help me, my lord the king!”

27 The king replied, “If the Lord does not help you, where can I get help for you? From the threshing floor? From the winepress?”

Lesson

The woman went to the King of Israel, just like we all go to our friends and she said, “Help me, my lord the king!”.

This is no way to say, going to our friends to share our issues with them is wrong. No, we all need someone to share with.

I am a strong believer of seeking support through counselling and seeking therapy. I also believe in sharing your problems with someone you trust.

But ultimately, I will encourage you to pray because the King replied the woman in verse 27, “If the Lord does not help you, where can I get help for you? From the threshing floor? From the winepress?”.

The King knew that our help comes from God and what the woman needed was God.

What you need is God. He can truly turn things around and answer your deepest concerns.

It may seems that your prayers are not being answered but I can tell you for a fact, Prayer works.

Psalm 121

A song of ascents.

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot slip—
    he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
    will neither slumber nor sleep.

Prayer

God, what I need is you. I am coming back to the heart of worship.

Renew my heart for you. Help me to pray and give me a breakthrough that will renew my faith in you.

Guide me O Lord, because I can not go through this journey on my own.

I need you now and always. In Jesus's name, I have prayed with thanksgiving, Amen.

And until next time, know that

You are enough, you are worthy!

Learn to Live life in the present

And know that nothing last forever so everything will be fine!

Take care of YOU, YOU are all you've got!
